Remote Associate Digital Product Designer, General Motors - Est. Salary: $62K - $97K

Job Description

Remote: This position does not require employee to be on-site full-time to perform most effectively. The employee’s role enables them to work off-site on a permanent basis

About the Team and Role:

Our customer is our compass. Their needs are the foundation of our design, and they are the reason we do what we do. The associate product designer will create innovative digital solutions for the Enterprise Consent Privacy & Preferences and Notifications team. This project team focuses on customer facing and internal corporate interfaces for consent and privacy management, and notification preferences. Our world class user experiences build trust by putting our customers in control of how we use their data through a centralized view, that allows them to effectively manage consent and privacy preferences and notifications.

In this position, you will work hand in hand with design teams across in-vehicle, web, mobile, and contact advisor to create world-class experiences.

Responsibilities

  • Work alongside a senior product designer to break down business and IT requirements and user stories and turn them into intuitive user experiences

  • Design user-focused wireframes, hi-fidelity mockups, interaction models, specifications, style guides and prototypes that elegantly illustrate a deep understanding of the user’s needs

  • Build strong relationships with business partners and IT to ensure the user is well represented in the product development cycle

  • Learn and develop personas, user workflows / story boards and logical information architecture

  • Ensure compliance with all standards of usability, design best practices and accessibility

  • Participate in workshops for journey mapping, brainstorming, vision sessions, and requirements gathering

  • Research design trends and forecast future experiences

  • Foster collaboration among teammates

  • Take ownership and create personal professional growth objectives and find ways to achieve them

Key Characteristics

Empathy: You are curious about how other people work, live, and think, you will enjoy meeting the users of our products, and thinking about design by visualizing yourself as one who will use it.

Creativity: You can generate numerous potential solutions to a problem. More importantly, product designers can screen out bad ideas and identify good ones. In our design environment, a designer needs the ability to brainstorm without ego attachment to any idea.

Strong communication skills: You can communicate broad concepts as well as fine detail through written and graphical media. You can convey design solutions through sketches and visualizations, as well as through prose.

Strong collaboration skills: You are an effortless collaborator. You welcome ideas from any source, and are prepared to build on them to make the work of your team successful.

Comfort with ambiguity: You are comfortable working in a space where problems and solutions are not well defined. You can cope with change, shift gears comfortably, and can decide and act without having the total picture.

 

Requirements

  • 1 to 3 years of experience creating user interfaces, digital products, or complex software applications across a range of channels

  • Formal degree or training in HCI, Product Design, Interaction Design, Visual Design or related

  • Solid understanding of how the user-centered design process drives design thinking and implementation

  • A strong portfolio of school projects, freelance or internship work demonstrating creating user-centered designs that illustrate the ability to turn requirements into creative solutions

  • Open to feedback, knows how give and receive criticism, and how and when to defend design decisions

  • Experience incorporating research into the design process

  • Prototyping experience (software and/or hardware development experience a plus)

  • Understanding of A11Y and WCAG Level AA accessibility requirement standards

  • Strong written, visual, and verbal communication skills

Education and Experience:

  • Industry Standard Design Tools (Figma, Adobe CC, Miro, Azure DevOps)

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Creative Design, Human Computer Interaction or similar

Compensation: The expected base compensation for this role is: ($62,202.48 - 97,290.96 USD Annual) . Actual base compensation within the identified range will vary based on factors relevant to the position.

Bonus Potential: An incentive pay program offers payouts based on company performance, job level, and individual performance.
